Haunted Illinois - It is said that Illinois has a vast array of haunted locations scattered through out the state. I have been to many places with the IGS paranormal investigative team and by myself. Resurrection Mary, Justice, The Lincoln Theater, Decatur, All around Chicago. The town of Alton, I could go on and on, but I found through one of my associates the small town of Manteno. It is a quiet little town about thirty-five miles south of Chicago, a short drive off of I-57 to the edge of town lies the Manteno Insane Asylum. it was built and operated during the late 1800's. Life there must have been a living hell for the mentally ill. Stories of horrendous experiments, water treatments where the patient was wrapped in plastic then put into a hot bath then taken out and put into an ice bath, and probably hundreds or thousands of labodomies. It was closed down in the mid sixties and left to fall into disrepair until the eighties when most of the buildings were either tore down or converted into offices. There was one lone building that was left alone, Many have gone there and got in to investigate, We have investigated there four times and each time convinced us that the abandoned mental asylum was definitely haunted. We heard and saw things that would make the average person run out screaming. On our first trip we immediately heard sounds upon entering the building, but while checking the building out we found thet there were only the four of us and we continued to hear banging noises and the sounds of footsteps. Further investigations gave way to pictures of apparitions, misty ghosts (www.illinoisghostsociety.com) We were in one of the main dormitories and while asking for a sign we heard a loud rumbling in the cieling from one of the hallways to the large room we were in and it stopped in the middle of the room. The ceiling has large holes in it and it would be impossible for someone to be up there. On our last visit we had a sense of someone or something following us the whole time we were there. We heard metallic tapping and several times we heard keys rattling in different areas, we then started feeling uneasy, some felt nauseated and we all felt like we had pressure on our chests, it was then that we decided to leave. After we exited the building we all felt fine. Is Manteno haunted? one would have to say yes, but even aftet the building is gone whatever is built there could be a new home for the restless spirits of Manteno Insane Asylum.

I have been to St. Augustine, Florida and been through the sites reported to be haunted. I am usually sensitive to "others" but did not feel anything like a presence anywhere. Unusual sensations were felt in the Castillo de San Marcos. No apparitions. Ghost Tours were available but did not interest me. Supposedly many who lived there swear that there are ghosts of descendants of early settlers in homes, restaurants and stores. The lighthouse was featured on Ghost Hunters (TAPS) but no recent happenings there either.
I have experienced many things but seeing a ghost is not something I can state. In 1987, my four year old son saw my father soon after he died and said he talked to him and was amazed that he was much younger looking. I believe him. He has not seen him again.
I have had many experiences of my bed being shaken wildly at night when I was wide awake. It has happened in every place I have lived. Sometimes I feel someone pat me on my hip or shoulder and I just lie there and in my mind I say "Hello, tell me what you want or please leave." They do. Thank God. I read Tarot cards and see things at times but don't feel comfortable with spirits just showing up. I would really like to find out what keeps our souls or spirits earth bound or if it is residual energy or something else. Everything is energy so we have much to comprehend about ghost phenomena. There is also the question of angels and demons. I have read for many years and have learned that there are differences of view points and perceptions. Objectivity is difficult so there has to be a filtering of "facts" and drawing your own conclusions. Also, I am frightened at the prospect of opening up a door to some other place that should not be opened. Therefore I am careful and prefer not to invite spirits into my energy or aura. What do you think?
